Weeks are dough and weeks are cheeses, so we reviewed pizzas • On the episode: Pizza from the north of Tel Aviv and the best pizza in the streets

Weeks in the doorway and there's nothing like a good pizza to celebrate cheesecake . Pizza Elephant Pizza, located at the Elephant Junction in Tel Aviv, hence its name, spoiled us with 3 huge pizzas 60cm each, with interesting additions that challenged our taste buds. With a topping of cheese combination: mozzarella, parmesan, manchego, cheddar and gouda, the pizza was delicious, but on the other hand we felt a little lack of flavor.

Immediately after that we switched to pizza gnocchi pesto. Yes, you read it right, pizza pesto. On the dough was an upgraded tomato sauce (the lack of which was very noticeable in the previous pizza) and topped with roughly sliced mozzarella pieces, and the twist of potato gnocchi and pesto with grated parmesan cheese over. The opinions about pizza were divisive: On the one hand, people who thought the gnocchi fit exactly the size of the giant triangles, but on the other stood those who claimed the interesting addition was unnecessary. The only consensus point about this dish - the pesto was a little sour.

At the end of the special edition in honor of the cheese festival came the winning pizza for us, Pizza Pear. The perfect blend of tomato sauce, beet cream, pears, mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta and rocket leaves created the perfect pizza to mark Pentecost. A combination of sweet and salty, with the rocket shit tingle was a pleasure to our taste.

Taking to the Streets: These are Pala

For those who live on the southern outskirts of the center, coming to Ness Ziona and Rehovot, ordering a pizza is usually a rather boring experience. On the streets, until recently, the choice was between network pizzerias and smaller institutions, which generally offer a similar product.

But over the past two years, with the expansion of the culinary scene from Tel Aviv to the outside, a number of less routine pizzas began to be found in the area, a complex pastry, intriguing and different from the combo of tomato-tomato-mozzarella-sauce dough, which characterizes the Israeli pizza world.

One of the institutions leading the pioneering pizza movement is "Ella Pala" in the streets. As its name suggests, "Ella Pala" offers a unique pizza style that literally means "on the scraper," that is, the tool from which the pizza is taken out of the oven, hence its rectangular shape. Also, the pizza is made directly on the stove so it should have a crunchy crust.

And that's the first thing to feel when you taste Ella Pala's pizza, the crunchy dough is accompanied by the taste of olive oil and the aroma drop of burnt from the oven. For those who love their pizza dough crackling but not too thin, the dough of “Ella Pala is a delightful experience.

The other thing that is felt in Ella Pala's pizza is the quality of the toppings. These palas do not serve meat on the pizza and instead they offer a large variety of pizzas that include extras such as organic zucchini flowers, eggplant, asparagus and potatoes. Of the various pizzas offered, we ordered Balkan pizza, crazy and crazy pizza which includes Kalamata olives, peppers and roasted eggplant, Bulgarian cheese and tomato sauce, and "Bianca" pizza with potatoes, mascarpone cheese, truffles, garlic confit, rosemary and rocket.

The strength that is evident in both dishes is the sauce. The Balkan pizza tomato sauce was rich and spicy right and did not mention the diluted tomato paste that is sometimes obtained in pizzas in Israel. The pizza at Bianca sauce was much better, with the cream and truffle flavors blending great and not overpowering each other.

The price of pizza at Ella Pala ranges from NIS 62 to NIS 88 and one pizza can suffice for two diners. Be brave and try the less common dishes, we also couldn't believe that a potato would go well on pizza.
