This news shocked the Tölzer Land: Mayor of Lenggries, Markus Landthaler, died of a heart attack on Thursday.

  • The Lenggries Mayor Markus Landthaler has died.
  • The 50-year-old died of a heart attack.
  • It was only in May that he took office in the Lenggries town hall.

Lenggries - Markus Landthaler was only elected to succeed Werner Weindl last March. In May, the 50-year-old free voter took office in Lenggries town hall. It was a start in turbulent times due to the Corona crisis. But Landthaler mastered the entry confidently. "He already had my respect in the first community council meeting he chaired," said Vice Mayor Franz Schöttl . Landhaler, who had worked for the Tölz police until his election, had always tried to “compensate. He always said: Let's talk about it again, ”says Schöttl. " Deep humanity“- that was what Landthaler said.

Mayor Markus Landthaler dies - Vice Mayor Franz Schöttl: "Incredible for everyone"

Schöttl was still shaken by the news of the death of the 50-year-old on Friday. "It is simply inconceivable for everyone," says Schöttl. “The thoughts of the local council and all employees are with his wife Annett and the daughters Maria and Carolin. Everyone wishes them a lot of strength in these difficult hours. "

District Administrator Josef Niedermaier is also deeply affected by the death of Lenggrieser. “It really hurts.” Landthaler was a person who “always took responsibility - whether with the police, with the water watch or just as a local politician”. He was straightforward, 100 percent honest and said “if something didn't suit him. But he was always humanly connecting, ”says Niedermaier. He listened to all the arguments and weighed everything up - always looking for the best solution for everyone. "It is a bitter loss for the local political family."

Markus Landthaler always tried to take everyone with him

Landthaler's effort to always find a common path, and the desire for harmony had been particularly evident in the weeks before the local elections . "Election campaign" - that was not for him, Landthaler had repeatedly emphasized. "We don't want to argue, I don't like that," he said, referring to his three competitors. "I don't want to speak badly, no defamation. Everyone who applies for an office wants the best for Lenggries. ”

After his victory in the runoff election, the 50-year-old was therefore not only pleased with his good result, but above all with the fact that the “election campaign ” was carried out so fairly.

Günter Haubner, third mayor and leader of the Free Voters in the municipal council, struggles over the phone with the Tölz courier for words. "It's a tragedy," he says. "We are all speechless." Landthaler was "a philanthropist, one who managed to take everyone with us," says Haubner, who has been on the town council with the 50-year-old for the past twelve years. "It's just sad. I can't find a better expression for it right now.

Tölzer police mourn former colleagues

The Tölz police also mourn their former colleague. "Shocked, stunned, deeply sad," is how deputy inspection manager Andreas Rohrhofer summarizes the state of mind. He had rarely seen the inspection as calmly as on Friday morning. Landthaler was "an original - with corners and edges, but endearing," says Rohrhofer. He was one "who gives the last shirt for his colleagues and friends".

Landthaler started his career with the police in 1987. After working in Geretsried, among other places, and as head of the civilian task force at the Weilheim directorate, the chief police commissioner worked as a service group leader in Tölz until he was elected mayor. Even after that, he remained in the inspection - at least a little. Because he kept the archive of the Tölzer police.

Markus Landthaler wanted to preserve the time out on the mountain pasture

This enthusiasm for history - especially for his home town of Lenggries - was one of Landthaler’s passions. He collected everything that somehow had to do with the history of the village - from the old travel guide to postcards and photos to brewery jugs.

The mountains were a second passion. Once a year he took a break in late summer and spent four weeks on the Rosssteinalm, where he took care of the young cattle and also of the chores. "It's just fun," he said in an interview earlier this year. It was a time-out that Landthaler wanted to preserve even after his choice - at least for a week or two a year. But on the afternoon of Corpus Christi day, the 50-year-old suffered a heart attack. "The rescue workers called in and the doctors in the hospital could no longer do anything for him," said Franz Schöttl.

Lenggries: Mourning for Markus Landthaler - condolence book is interpreted
