British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the imposition of a new lockdown across the United Kingdom in an attempt to curb the spread of the fastest-transmitting coronavirus.
British media quoted Johnson as saying in a televised speech: “We must enter into a new national lockdown, which is difficult but sufficient to contain the mutated virus,” indicating that all schools and universities will be closed and distance education will continue until mid-February.
Johnson added: All restaurants, bars and other hospitality places must close their doors from tomorrow, while restaurants will be able to sell food for delivery or ready meals without selling alcohol, calling on the British to follow the new rules.
It is noteworthy that the number of Coronavirus infections in Britain rose sharply in the last weeks of last year, due to the emergence of a new mutated type of Corona virus that is more contagious and faster to spread, which required the British government to impose a closure to contain the outbreak of the virus.
According to the latest official statistics in Britain, the total number of Corona cases reached 2654779, while the number of deaths reached 75024 cases.
