Every winter, a large number of narcos go south to Hong Kong for the winter.

The Green Power of the Ring Group today (11th) announced the latest "Wintering Butterflies Survey" and found that Deep Water Bay on Hong Kong Island recorded the most wintering butterflies, reaching 1,566, a record high for the site.

In addition, a wintering butterfly was discovered for the first time in Tai Lam Country Park and a location on the south of Hong Kong Island. It is estimated that there are better sheltered forests and streams, which are favorable conditions.

The "Wintering Butterflies Survey" was launched in 2009 and covers four local wintering sites for the Butterflies.

The latest survey results show that Deep Water Bay on Hong Kong Island recorded the largest number of overwintering butterflies with 1,566; followed by Lantau Diversion with 308; Tuen Mun Xiao Lengshui and Lantau Shuikou with 195 and 98 respectively.

In terms of species, more than 90% of the butterflies in Deep Water Bay and Xiao Lengshui are of the "crow type", such as the blue-spotted purple butterfly and the phantom purple butterfly; while the Lantau diversion and outlets are mainly "tiger-shaped", such as the quasi , Tabby butterfly.

Deep water bay butterfly migrates from the middle and upper reaches of the stream to a hidden place away from the river

Shan Jiahua, Senior Environmental Affairs Manager of Green Power, said that the number of butterflies recorded in the four wintering locations has fluctuated in the past ten years. Take Deep Water Bay, which has the most wintering butterflies this year, as an example, the winters in 2014 and 2015 only Fewer than 20 animals were recorded, and over a thousand were recorded in the winter of 2017. The latest record of 1,566 is only the highest number since the survey in 12 years.

Shan Jiahua said that the position of the butterflies that appeared in the Deep Water Bay this winter has changed, from the easy-to-observe position that used to be concentrated in the middle and upper reaches of the stream to a more hidden position away from the river.

He estimated that the trees far away from the river are becoming more mature, so they can attract butterflies, and a hidden location with less human interference is also more conducive to clustering of butterflies.

Tai Lam Country Park and the wintering ground for divergent butterflies on Hong Kong Island

The Green Forces have newly discovered spotted butterflies in Tai Lam Country Park and a location on the south of Hong Kong Island. 838 and 553 are recorded respectively, all of which are mainly "crow-shaped".

Since most of the butterflies at these two locations are still, Shan Jiahua believes that it is not just a short stay for the wintering butterflies.

He pointed out that most of Hong Kong’s wintering places for arboreal butterflies are located in small river valleys, and they also like to inhabit in the mixed wood forests full of small trees and vines. Tai Lam Country Park and the wintering places for argan butterflies in the south of Hong Kong Island are all mixed wood forests with better shelter. There is also a stream next to it, which is in line with the conditions for the butterfly to choose a wintering location. In addition, in recent years, Tai Lam Country Park has planted a large number of plants that attract the butterfly. It also belongs to the western New Territories as another wintering location for the butterfly, Xiao Lengshui, Tuen Mun, so there is a chance Attracted the visit of small cold water butterflies.

The wintering butterfly in Deep Water Bay jumps 22 times, the third highest in ten years, the small cold water butterfly in Tuen Mun rises 1.5 times
