After leaving the Labor Party, "Israel Today" has learned that the Minister of Welfare may join Bnei Gantz's party • Blue and white may add senior members of the political system
Minister of Labor and Welfare Itzik Shmuli, last year
Labor and Welfare Minister Itzik Shmuli, who announced today (Tuesday) that he is leaving the Labor Party, is in negotiations to join the Blue and White party headed by Defense Minister Bnei Gantz, Israel Today has learned.
The minister in front of me chose not to comment on the matter.
A source in blue and white confirmed to "Israel Today" that additional contacts are taking place regarding the joining of senior figures from outside the political system, as well as connections in the center-left bloc.
As stated, Molly announced earlier today that he does not intend to run for the presidency of the Labor Party and that he is leaving it.
In a statement, Shmuli wrote that "this decision is not easy for me, this party is a home for me. You all also know how much I have waited for the moment I can lead. Its basic and binding values will continue to accompany me, but I will lead their implementation from another political place."
Shmuli entered politics in 2012, after being one of the leaders of the social protest of the summer of 2011. From the beginning of his political career, he ran for the Knesset on behalf of the Labor Party, and even became one of the popular Knesset members within the party.
In his statement, Shmuli wrote that in his opinion, the party should join forces with large political forces in order to change the government, and since he saw that this move was receding, he chose to retire.
