The administration of the future US President Joe Biden is becoming more complete.

After the nominations of his future ministers, only a few top positions are still open - including in the Ministry of Health.

For the first time in the history of the country, a transgender woman will become State Secretary there.

This was announced by Biden's transition team.

Levine was a "historic and well-qualified choice" and brought "the leadership and crucial expertise we need to get the population through this pandemic," it said.

Levine is currently the state secretary of health for the state of Pennsylvania and a professor of paediatrics and psychiatry at Penn State College of Medicine.

Biden had already nominated California Attorney General Xavier Becerra as the future US Secretary of Health.

The nominations must be confirmed by the Senate.

This applies to all cabinet posts and senior offices in the US government.

The Ministry of Health with the designated candidates Becerra and Levine is likely to be of central importance in the coming weeks.

The USA is the country in the world hardest hit by the corona pandemic.

Johns Hopkins University recently reported more than 24 million infections since the pandemic began, and tens of thousands of new cases are still being added every day.

More than 400,000 people in the USA have already died as a result of a corona infection.

Biden had announced that 100 million people would be vaccinated against the coronavirus in the first 100 days of his term in office.

In addition, Biden wants to reverse a number of decisions made by his predecessor Donald Trump on the first day of his term in office.
