Missiles fired from the Kuweires airport in Aleppo, under the control of the regime, targeted civilian localities, as well as fuel tanker parking lots in the districts of Jarablous and Al-Bab in Syria.

Civilians were injured,

”the ministry said.

Ankara also said it responded to the attack by "

shooting at designated targets

", without giving further details.

The ministry shared a short video showing fuel oil tankers on fire on Twitter.

Turkish authorities have contacted Russia to demand an end to "

firing targeting the Euphrates Shield region and civilians,

" the ministry added.

Turkey launched an operation dubbed “

Euphrates Shield

” in 2016, taking control of a territory of more than 2,000 km2 in northern Syria.

It targeted the Islamic State group and the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), Washington's allies in the anti-jihadist fight and which Ankara considers to be a Syrian extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is leading a guerrilla war on Turkish soil.

The operation allowed Syrian rebels backed by Turkey to control several towns including Jarablous and Al-Bab.

In early March, missile fire at oil refineries near Jarablous left four dead and 24 wounded.

Oil installations in Turkey-controlled parts of Aleppo province have come under repeated attacks in recent months, although Moscow and the Syrian government have not claimed them.
