Is there any cause for concern?

“No”, assures the management of the municipal enterprise (KU).

The number, it is said, is not very meaningful, and the budget was deliberately designed conservatively.

Peissenberg

- Budget planning for the municipal utilities for the 2021 financial year was already completed in October 2020. Eleven business divisions and five company holdings had to be financially mapped. "That results in an endless number of individual positions," reports KU boss Ingrid Haberl in an interview with the local newspaper. The budget accordingly contains many variables that accumulate across the breadth of the business areas. This means that the overall result shown cannot be more than a vague forecast: “We rarely achieve the value we had planned,” explains Haberl. A look at the past annual financial statements shows that the factories usually do much better in the implementation of the plan. The reason for this is the cautious and rather cautious calculation of the budget approaches. In 2019, for example, a deficit of over one million euros was expected. In the end, however, you landed at 310,000 euros - mind you, in the plus area. Haberl's assessment of the overall economic situation is positive: “We have stable and orderly finances.” But the framework conditions for the plants are still not easy - and according to Haberl, this is also due to the “basic structure” of the range of tasks. The KU boss is referring to the fact that the “Rigi-Rutsch'n” operating division, with its annual pool park deficit, has a major negative impact on the overall balance sheet. The result: "On average, the municipal utilities cannot generate what they spend," says Haberl.Haberl's assessment of the overall economic situation is positive: “We have stable and orderly finances.” But the framework conditions for the plants are still not easy - and according to Haberl, this is also due to the “basic structure” of the range of tasks. The motto is therefore to expand profit divisions and gain new ones: “That is our plan,” says Haberl.

An example: The entry into the “Natural Gas Sales” division, which is shown in the 2021 business plan with a positive result of 70,000 euros.

In addition, so-called district solutions for electricity and heat generation are being designed, such as in the “Sonnencarré” housing estate currently under construction on Bergwerkstrasse.

Similar projects are to be implemented in the course of the development on the former Finsterwalder property on Eberstrasse and on the MTP site.

The outpatient rehabilitation center in the health and spa park is also expected to be a profitable subsidiary soon.

Nevertheless: “Of course, you can't open up countless branches.

You're limited, ”says Haberl.

According to the business plan, the plants will invest almost six million euros in investment projects this year.

Most of the financing comes from outside capital.

But Haberl differentiates: "We create balance sheet values for the loans and expenses." The KU boss refers, among other things, to the further conversion from overhead power lines to underground cables, to the construction of the new high-level drinking water tank including supply and discharge lines and the technical upgrade of the sewage treatment plant with a rake washing press.

And how does Haberl assess the future of the municipal works?

"Absolutely positive." It is "exhausting" for small municipal utilities to assert themselves in competition and to position themselves on the free market, "but you can do it".

The prerequisite for this, however, is "that you keep developing".

Overall, the factories have made “good progress” over the past few years. The trend is absolutely positive: "I hope to find new electricity customers in the district and that the old ones will remain loyal to us," explains Haberl. The social orientation of the company - such as the operation of an outdoor swimming pool - can only be achieved by the municipal company with broad support from the population.
