In summer, the weather is very hot and the sun is scorching. If you decide to go hiking, you must choose the hiking route carefully.

Some famous outing locations lack tree shade, the distance is long, the climb is large and rapid, the lack of supply points and retreat intersections on the way, may not be suitable for visiting in summer.

The editor selected the following 9 places, which are high-risk points for heatstroke discomfort. If a friend asks you to go hiking in these places in the summer, please think twice!

(1) Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail: Long-distance, lack of shade and no retreat

The Plover Cove Reservoir Country Park is located in the Plover Cove Country Park. It goes around the lake from the starting point of Wu Jiaoteng to the ridge, passes through Ma Tau Peak, Chima Tau, Dayong, etc., along the road with many ups and downs, to the main dam of the Plover Cove Reservoir. The total length is 15.5 kilometers.

The Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail is the only "5-star" comprehensive difficulty route in the "Country Fun Tour" website of the Fisheries and Conservation Department.

In recent years, there have been more and more Pedestrian Bay Reservoir Country Trails because this is the only way to and from Wong Chuk Kok Tsui Guishou Rock.

However, there are no retreats and no replenishment points on the Plover Cove Reservoir Picnic Trail.

If there is a shortage of food or water or discomfort in the middle of the journey, it will be very dangerous, and most of the road sections are on ridges without trees, and the risk of heatstroke is extremely high.

The Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail, a round trip around the Plover Cove Reservoir, has a total length of 15.5 kilometers. It is a 5-star route in the "Country Pleasure Tour".

Before leaving the mountain, I learned that the weather is hot. For example, the Observatory has issued a hot weather warning. The first thing to do is to measure your physical condition. Not everyone is suitable for vigorous exercise in high temperatures.

Children, the elderly, people with chronic diseases or high blood pressure, and people who are obese are more prone to heat stroke.

If you decide to go hiking, in order to reduce the risk of fever, hikers must choose the route carefully.

When choosing a summer hiking route, five factors can be considered: short route, less upslope, more shade, more supplies, and more retreats.

(2) Baxianling: There are many climbs but there is almost no shade on the ridge

Usually mountain hikers will go up and down the Pat Sin Leng on the Wei Yixin Trail. Whether they are in the direction of He Tau or starting from Damei Du, they will climb a lot and challenge the heart and lung load.

The most difficult sections of the climb include Xiangu Peak, Shang Chunyang Peak, and Pingfeng Mountain from the intersection of Baxianling Nature Education Trail.

There is no supply point on the mountain. Although there are branches in the middle of the mountain, the other downhill roads are far away and more rugged than the Wilson Trail.

The ridges of Baxianling, Libi Mountain, Huangling Mountain and Pingfeng Mountain are all lacking large trees, and are dominated by dwarf forests, with very few shade places for resting.

Under the scorching sun, going up and down on the ridge of Baxianling is a great test of the body.

Moreover, the route along the Baxian Mountains is more than 10 kilometers long and the distance is very long.

Looking back at Baxianling from Libi Mountain, the trail on the ridge lacks shade.

(3) Jiulongkeng Mountain: as sandwiched between the blazing sun and the concrete floor

There are three main ways to go up and down the Jiulongkeng Mountain. Among them, it is easier to go from Jiulongkeng along the military road, and the other two ways are endless ladders.

The first method is from Tai Po head to the Davidson Trail to climb to Yuxiu Peak, or from Fu Heng to rush to Yuxiu Peak, and then to the Wilson Trail and then to Jiulong Hang Mountain; the second road is from Sha Lo Tung, Continue to climb to the top of the concrete floor.

Although there are many pavilions in the early part of the mountain from Tai Po, the trails near Yuxiu Peak are all on the ridge, lacking shade. As for the stairs from Fu Heng to Yuxiu Peak, it is very anxious.

From Yuxiu Peak to Jiulongkeng Mountain, there are many levels of concrete, and some of them are very long and are regarded as "stairs to the sky."

As for the building on the top of Jiulongkeng in Shaluo Cave, it is extremely long and there is no shade. It is even more difficult than climbing on the side of Yuxiu Peak.

When hiking in the summer, in addition to choosing the route carefully, it is also recommended to avoid traveling at noon!

The sun is the hottest at noon. Hikers can choose a shorter route to start early to early morning or postpone it to dusk to avoid the hottest time, such as departure at 8 am, downhill before 12 noon, or until the afternoon Depart after 3 o'clock, go down the mountain before entering the dark at 6 o'clock.

(4) Needle Hill: Mai Keng's "big guy" rushes up and down and owes shade to the trees

Among the hills of the MacLehose Trail, the needle hill in section 7 can be regarded as a "big hit".

Climbing up from the main dam of Chengmen Reservoir, followed by endless levels of buildings, and there is no shade in the middle and back sections.

Needle Mountain is 532 meters high, the road to the top is the steepest, and there is no shade for people to rest on the top of the mountain.

After climbing to the top, follow the wheat trail and descend along the stairs to the forest road in the country park. There are only some shade spots beside the road.

(5) Green hills: very little shade and zero replenishment

The green hill is 583 meters above sea level. Usually, hikers will climb to the top by the mountain road of Qingshan Temple. This distance is not long, but it climbs very quickly, and the ascent is very urgent.

As for the road from Qingshan to Liangtian Col, it is a gravel road with no shade of trees. You have to walk under the scorching sun all the way, and there is no ideal resting place.

In fact, what is referred to here is not only a green hill, but includes the green hills, Yuantou Mountain and the hinterland of the green hills. These places are all inferior places. Most of the hillsides and ridges are barren sand and stone, and it is difficult for tall trees to grow. There is very little shade.

The hinterland of Qingshan belongs to the military artillery area. There is no village supply in the area, and it is far away from the road. There are not many emergency retreat points.

For example, if you have to retreat to Qingsong and Honghe, you will have to travel for two hours before going out.

(6) Jiujing Mountain: "Ladder" climbing is difficult and there is little shade

Jiu Keng Mountain is also located in Tuen Mun, with a height of 507 meters. Normally, hikers will go up the hill via Tuen Mun Trail and then the "Ladder".

Called "Ladder to the Sky", the ascent of Jiujing Mountain is not easy, and it tests physical fitness.

Furthermore, there are not many shade trees along the road in Jiujing Mountain.

(7) Magang Mountain: the well-known "ladder" is difficult to climb the mountain

The mountain with the highest risk of heat stroke on Hong Kong Island is believed to be the Magang Mountain in Stanley.

If you walk along the Wilson Path, whether it’s smoothly from Stanley or going backwards from Repulse Bay Col, you will always have to step up to the endless steps of Magang Mountain under the scorching sun. .

(8) Anaconda Snake Tip: Rugged and difficult to travel with black spots of heatstroke

As the head of the "Three Tips," Anaconda Snake Tip is of course a high-risk place.

Normally, the footpath will take the MacLehose Trail to Tai Long Au, then turn to the trail, and then formally climb the Anaconda Snake Point after passing the Anaconda Snake Col. The mountain road behind the Anaconda Colt is no more shade.

The slope of the mountain road is high, climbing rapidly, testing the heart and lungs, and directly facing the strong sunlight, so it is easy to get heatstroke in summer.

The nearest supply point for Anaconda Snake Point is Chijing, Dalang, and Xiantian. These seaside villages are about 2 hours away from the top of Anaconda Snake Point, and there is no retreat during the time when they are up to Anaconda Snake Point. The branch road to Dawan is as far away as it is. Exposure.

In case of discomfort on the way to the tip of the anaconda, it can be said that there is no way out.

(9) Jigongling: There must be preparations for the whole exposure

Choose the route with the least shade and the most sunshine in Hong Kong. Jigongling, located in Lam Tsuen Country Park, will definitely be among the best.

Mountain hikers usually go up the mountain from Fengji Township, Yuen Long, from west to east along Jigong Ling, first up to Jigong Mountain, then to the highest peak of Jigong Ling, Luo Tianding, and finally to Fan Kam Highway.

There is almost no shade in this section of the mountain road, which is about 7 kilometers. Therefore, to get to Jigongling, you must be prepared for the whole journey.

Luo Tianding is 585 meters high, so Jigongling climbs a lot, and there is no supply on the way.

If you feel unwell on the way to Jigongling, there is no convenient retreat route.

Jigongling lacks shade, and the guild in summer is quite hard.

Hiking in the above 9 places is not easy in autumn and winter, let alone hot summer.

If you seldom keep exercising in hot weather, you really have to think twice if you want to go to these places in summer.

In Hong Kong, there are definitely a lot of mountains that are both sun-dried and difficult to walk. Certainly not only the above 9 locations, they can't be recorded all of them. Please do your homework before going on the mountain to understand the route.

When hiking in the summer, it is recommended to avoid long distances, more climbs, less shade, lack of supplies, and no retreat. It is best to travel with a companion. In case of discomfort, a companion will take care of and ask for help.
