The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the air defense systems in charge of protecting the Hmeimim base had shot down a drone launched by the terrorist organizations deployed in Idlib towards the base in the countryside of Latakia.
And the ministry indicated in a statement published on its website today that “the monitoring means at the Hmeimim base spotted at 12:30 p.m. a drone launched from the territories controlled by terrorist organizations in the de-escalation zone in Idlib.”
The statement added that the "Pantsir-S" air defense system at the base destroyed the air target at a distance from the base, stressing that there were no casualties or material damage as a result of the accident, and that the Hmeimim base continues to operate normally.
Over the past months, air defenses have thwarted dozens of attempts by terrorist groups to attack safe areas and villages in the countryside of Latakia and the Hmeimim base with drones carrying bombs and rocket-propelled grenades from the depth of their areas of deployment in the Idlib and Latakia countryside.
