Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune ordered to stop pumping gas through Moroccan territory towards Spain.
A statement by the Algerian presidency, published on its official website on Facebook today, stated that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune received today a report on the contract linking the national company Sonatrach to the Moroccan Office of Electricity and Water, which ends at midnight.
In view of the aggressive practices of the Kingdom of Morocco towards Algeria, which affect national unity, and after consulting the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, and the Minister of Energy and Mines, the President of the Republic ordered the national company Sonatrach to stop the commercial relationship with the Moroccan company and not to renew the contract.
Algeria had said earlier that it would not use the Maghreb-European pipeline that crosses Morocco when the contract expires on the 31st of this month, while Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab made it clear that his country is the main supplier of gas to Spain.. It will supply supplies through the pipeline (Medgaz). ) under the sea.
Last August, Algeria announced the severing of its diplomatic relations with Morocco. At the time, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra, said that his country “decided to sever its diplomatic relations with Morocco against the backdrop of Morocco’s continued hostile actions against it.”
