This Monday, November 1, they must all be removed, under penalty of a fine, with the exception of the 1,200 restorers who have requested an extension of annual terraces.

As of November 1, the so-called “

ephemeral

” then “

summer

terraces

must be removed in accordance with the new municipal by-law which provides for their return each year from April 1 to October 31.

Parisian bars and restaurants which had been able to extend their terraces on the sidewalks or parking spaces thanks to the Covid-19 to promote outdoor gatherings must repack. “

We dismantled our terrace on Saturday. It took us an hour. There were about fifty places but its closure will not have a big economic impact in view of the current bad weather

”, explains one on the side of the Frog de Bastille.

An observation shared by Pascal Mousset, president of the National Group of Independent Hotels, Restaurants and Caterers (GNI) Paris Île-de-France: “

With the bad weather that sets in and the fact that there is no longer any distancing necessary between tables, these terraces are now less crucial for our turnover

”.

But all the restaurateurs concerned are not inclined to fold their terraces so easily.

I haven't seen a lot of terraces being taken down.

There will be a lot of professionals in violation,

”estimates the president of the GNI Paris Île-de-France.

Fines of up to 15,000 euros

The mayor of Paris, it wants to settle the settlement gradually. “

We're going to do that gradually anyway. That is to say that we first issue fines, then afterwards, there will be dismantling by the city. Already, as there are some of which we know that they have not respected, there could very quickly be dismantling actions

, ”declared Olivia Polski, PS assistant for trade to the mayor of Paris. Fines of up to 15,000 euros.

But a special case exists. Indeed, the Paris town hall has received around 7,500 requests to be able to open again next spring on parking spaces, plots or pedestrian paths. But among these, more than 1,200 requests concern annual patio extensions. "

There will be a tolerance for those who have made a request for annual terraces until their request is investigated

", specifies the mayor of Paris. The aim is to respond to these requests as quickly as possible, but this may take a little time. “

The majority of professionals have not received a response. The departments concerned seem overwhelmed,

”says Pascal Mousset of the GNI. "

Everything will be investigated in the spring, with a priority for long-term extensions

"Olivia Polski told JDD.

The sustainability of these terraces worries certain groups of residents, who have been protesting for several months already against a device which, according to them, aggravates the problem of noise pollution in particular.
