The end for the doors? When Should You Give Up A Traditional Door - And How To Choose The Right Alternative | Israel today

2021-11-07T15:37:20.021Z

At almost every point on the globe the term “home” symbolizes the same things: security, warmth, family and love. At the same time, those who have been privileged to travel in other countries know that everywhere - houses look a little different: from the exterior, through the foyer and the type of shingles to the division of the interior space and the chosen design line. This difference of course also stems from geographical and climatic characteristics but most often, mainly as a result of cultural differences and a different perception of what a “home” is and what its role is. But in the 21st century, no matter where you live, how you choose to divide the space in your home and what uses you designate for it - there is probably one thing that most homes in the world have in common: doors.

Do you even need a door?

Whether made of solid wood, steel or veneer - in almost every home in the world you will find doors, whose function is to separate the various spaces of the house.

But because we are so used to their necessity, we do not always give them too much thought.

Thus, in some homes you will find doors that are logically placed, take up too much space and open in the wrong direction.

If you are facing buying or replacing a door, wondering where to place it in your new home or wondering how to solve some of the problems it produces for you - allow yourself to be innovative and brave and pay attention to some effective, convenient and upgraded alternatives to your classic door:

Stop thinking of the necessity of the classic door as a matter of course!

Ask yourself - do you even need this door?

In homes where there is a foyer or entrance hall for example, it is not certain that a separate door is needed from the rest of the house.

It is very possible that actually giving up the door will create a more open and flowing space and will avoid a "suffocated" and claustrophobic look of the hallway.

Another example is shower rooms that are connected to a bathroom - even there you do not always need a connecting door, which takes up a lot of space, "suffocates" the bathroom and of course - may be damaged by dampness and swelling as a result of the accumulated steam in the shower.

If you still want to create a separation between the spaces, there are many alternatives to the classic door: using a curtain (such as the famous Japanese curtains) and even - hanging a beaded curtain, ropes or a stylish rug that will define the separation of spaces, but allow airiness and flow.

While these are all winning options in many homes, keep in mind that they also have drawbacks: a certain loss of privacy, difficulty controlling the air conditioning and more.

Therefore, you should wisely choose where you give up and what not and everything according to your needs and the characteristics of the space.

Nice to meet you -

PIVOT

doors

Pivot are probably the latest word in the world of doors and a popular choice among architects seeking to convey luxury and innovation.

While the standard doors operate through several hinges - pivot doors open and close by rotating on a single hinge, allowing for a vertical opening of almost 360 degrees.

These doors will usually be made of glass and boast an impressive size that works great in hotels or banks, but is less practical for use in private homes or crowded public buildings.

In the vast majority of apartments you will not find enough space for it, but if you still want to create a dramatic entrance to your home and have deep pockets - it is quite possible that a pivot door will serve as a great solution for you.

You are invited to move - sliding doors!

Sliding doors are one of the most aesthetic, efficient and diverse alternatives to the classic door.

You can find them in a variety of sizes, colors, materials, transparencies and weights, with the basic mechanism common to all: a door that is easily pushed aside parallel to the wall, or into a dedicated space inside.

Today, most sliding doors are equipped with advanced mechanisms that allow for easy and effortless opening and also - a quiet slamming mechanism, so you will not have to hear more than a single slamming of a door!

Sliding doors allow their users flexibility in the division of space - complete privacy, acoustic sealing and thermal insulation, but also - the ability to stay connected to the rest of the parts and members of the house.

Shalom Dror, CEO of Dror Doors, which markets interior doors designed for homes made in Italy, says that sliding doors have a number of significant advantages. "A sliding door allows us to control the amount of light we want to bring into the home and also create the illusion of a larger and more spacious space."

Dror adds that the doors, which are characterized by high durability over the years, can be found in a variety of styles and designs that will allow a designed entrance to a luxurious master bedroom, luxury and aesthetics at the entrance of the office or even a picture and caption customized for a children's room.

In short - it's time to open the door to the next chapter in our design life.

Accordion (not just for playing)

As they are, accordion doors are doors that fold into themselves when opened.

These doors, which look like a regular door when closed, aim to save space and they do so with impressive efficiency and quiet, without creaking.

Another significant advantage of them is that they are doors that can be installed anywhere (yes! Even in existing frames) and its smart choice will suit most spaces - from home offices, through children's rooms to the kitchen.

For many, these doors are the most flexible solution, allowing for an open, flowing and airy space or a clear, separate and private division.

At the same time, not everyone connects at the sight of the accordion door.

Despite the variety of designs that can be found today, there are those who prefer more luxurious doors, which will contribute to the dramatic and aesthetic look of the home.

In addition, the door insulates noise quite low and some users suffer from wear and tear damage such as worn or broken wheels and more.
