Damascus Governorate has completed the rehabilitation and maintenance works of the expansion joints of the southern highway coming from Mazzeh towards Damascus International Airport, to put it into service next week.

Director of Supervision in the governorate, Engineer Hisham Al-Hamwi, explained in a statement to SANA’s delegate today that the road will be put into service next week after completing all rehabilitation and maintenance work, noting that the last joints that were replaced need a week to harden and take their place, referring to the commencement of work to clean the road from dust and the remnants of repairs.

The rehabilitation and maintenance work, according to Al-Hamwi, included the replacement of the 60 expansion joints and the old “neoprene” supports located on the pillars with new supports numbering 917, in addition to laying an asphalt shirt for the road, with a length of about 1500 meters and a width ranging between 18 and 26 meters, with an asphalt area of ​​more than 36 A thousand square metres.

Al-Hamwi pointed out that the works were completed within the specified nodal period for one side of the southern corridor coming from Mazzeh towards Damascus International Airport, linking from the eighth node in the Kafr Sousa region to the sixth node in the Al-Zahera area.

On the twenty-ninth of last May, the rehabilitation and maintenance work of the expansion joints of the aforementioned road began, and was implemented by the Military Construction Implementation Corporation, Damascus branch.
