A 35-year-old public bus driver was hit today (Sunday) by shrapnel from a windshield after the bus was hit by stones thrown at him near the settlement of Hizma.
MDA staff provided him with medical treatment and evacuated him to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital with shrapnel in his eyes.
The Organization of Bus Drivers in Israel from the Histadrut said: "Buses are attacked because they are perceived as a symbol of government. Only recognizing bus drivers as public employees can save their lives and the lives of passengers and cause drivers to sit behind bars. The day a driver kills on the road is closer than ever." .
According to the National Organization of Drivers' Organization, which monitors the issue through a comprehensive annual report, in 2020 drivers experienced 3,644 cases of physical violence. In practice, the number is much higher as only 47% of cases were reported.
