Today, the National House of Books Theater in Aleppo hosted a concert entitled “Nights of Maqamat,” which included the presentation of a number of songs, muwashshahat and Al-Qudud Al-Halabi, presented by a selection of heritage singers in Al-Shahba.

The concert, which was held in cooperation between the Directorate of Culture, the Artists Syndicate and the Governorate of Aleppo, was supervised by Maestro Abdel Halim Hariri, in an annual tradition witnessed by the city to celebrate its singing heritage.

In a statement to SANA reporter, Muhammad Hegazy, director of the National Book House, spoke about the Maqam Nights program, which is held in the form of a series of successive episodes with the aim of educating the attendees in terms of dealing with one maqam in each artistic evening and referring during an accompanying dialogue session to the name of the maqam, its sound and its musical degree, which enhances the Attendance of musical culture and develop artistic taste.

The artist Abdel Halim Hariri, head of the branch of the Syndicate of Artists in Aleppo, explained that the celebration, which included the presentation of songs from the Al-Bayati Maqam, contributes to perpetuating the culture of listening among the audience and identifying the types of maqam by presenting songs instead of lectures.

From the Executive Office of the Aleppo Provincial Council, Zikra Hajjar pointed to the importance of these cultural and artistic events, especially that the people of Aleppo are connoisseurs of art, indicating the importance of providing information about musical shrines to the public, which contributes to enriching the artistic cultural movement.

In turn, Jaber Al-Sajour, Director of Culture in Aleppo, drew attention to the importance of restoring heritage within these artistic celebrations in order to preserve it, especially the Aleppine cods that we are proud of.

A number of attendees expressed the importance of these celebrations, which enrich the artistic taste and contribute to the identification of Arab music.
