Advocate Maayan Haimovich, who specializes in criminal law, believes that "on the one hand, it is clear that the meteoric rise in the number of sexual offenses in which minors are suspected is a cause for concern, although at least part of it seems to be related to the anomalies of 2020. "The book and the other educational frameworks in which, unfortunately, sexual offenses are committed among minors.

"

"The fact that more and more boys and girls are deciding to break the trend of concealment, shame and silence that characterizes sexual offenses among minors is a certificate of honor for the future generation that grew up here, and in a really positive line."

Additional data relating to the years 2018 and 2019 show that a total of 1,330 cases involving sexual offenses of boys were opened, of which only 168 reached a legal decision - 13% in total.

215 cases, which constitute 19% of the total cases opened in these years, are still being processed by the State Attorney's Office or the Police Prosecution Department.

900 cases, which are 68%, were shelved.

According to Advocate Haimovich, "These figures can be confusing, as they in no way indicate a high percentage of unjustified complaints, but mainly a lack of real evidence and a great difficulty of the investigators, who by law can not prefer one version over The other.

In addition, it is important to note that the rate of cases that were opened on suspicion of sexual offenses against minors and were eventually shelved is similar to the overall rate of criminal cases that are shelved every year. "
