Sulzemoos/Wiedenzhausen – He was a Sulzemoos veteran whose heart was attached to the Sulzemoos sports club for almost 75 years: Robert Englmann has now died at the age of 90.

Robert Englmann was born on March 25, 1931 in Wiedenzhausen.

At the age of 14 he came to Sulzemoos as an agricultural worker.

His dream job would actually have been a butcher, but he couldn't find an apprenticeship.

After 20 years, Englmann changed his job and worked for the Dachau road maintenance department until he retired in 1994.

In 1955 Robert Englmann led his Agnes down the aisle and was happily married to her until her death in 2014.

His daughters Beate, Gabi and Monika emerged from the marriage.

Robert Englmann worked for the community in Sulzemoos for decades.

From 1963 until the local government reform in 1972 he was on the municipal council.

For 35 years he was in charge of erecting the maypole, he was a member of the warriors' and veterans' association, the gardening association and the stock shooters.

But Englmann shaped the Sulzemoos sports club the most.

He was a founding member in 1947 and held a number of positions in the sports leadership for 26 years.

During his four-year term as first chairman from 1963 to 1967, the first football field and the first club house were built.

He was also later involved in all construction and expansion measures.

For more than ten years, Englmann was an active footballer and a pillar of the first team and was made an honorary member of the sports club in 1981.

The Bavarian State Sports Association presented him with a gold pin for his achievements.

In 2010, Englmann was awarded the DFB honorary office award, the “Oscar of life” so to speak, for his services.

He also worked as a field cashier for 15 years and as a groundskeeper for 36 years before the club took his well-deserved retirement in 2013.

But even after that, Robert was still there for his club.

The sprightly pensioner could often be found mowing the lawn or doing other activities on the sports grounds.

"The work is fun and keeps you fit," he said.

A few years ago he had to step down for health reasons, but he never lost interest in Sulzemoos and the sports club.

His electrically powered senior citizens' vehicle, with which he often traveled around Sulzemoos, provided mobility.

One thing is certain: Without Robert Englmann, the sports club would certainly not be where it is today.
