One fled to the West to take shelter from the bombardments, the other took refuge in the cellars of his building to protect his family.

"I'm ready for anything," repeats Serhii, fresh out of the basement of his building when the shelling on Vychhorod stopped.

Like almost all Ukrainians, this father had to face the first moments of the war, the Russian invasion of his country.

“I am not a soldier, but if necessary, I will become one,” he assures us, ready to take up arms on the spot to defend his homeland against the invader.

Although aware of Vladimir Putin's desire to attack Ukraine, Sashko had to flee west in haste to "get his family to safety".

“The missiles are falling everywhere, they are destroying bridges, airports, power stations,” says this film producer, who follows the advance of enemy troops on his mobile phone.

For Sashko, the whole people will resist.

This struggle “is the future against the past, democracy against totalitarianism”.

For his part, Serhii calls for "help everyone".

“It will be too hard to fight alone, he insists.

The challenge, according to him, is “to immediately avoid a Third World War”.
