Which nurse gets how much bonus, and is there even one?

Sometimes the government's decisions cause confusion and displeasure among the nursing staff themselves, but also in the facilities.

District – Nursing staff have a demanding job, the pandemic isn’t making it any easier.

Many are at the limit.

Corona bonus payments are supposed to be a recognition for them, but also cause confusion, both among the employees themselves and in the facilities.

"My personal opinion is: The government is making larifari, it goes back and forth," says Gabriele Mundigl, head of the Pichlmayr senior center in Wartenberg.

The traffic light recently announced a tax-free bonus of up to 3,000 euros, but in January the whole thing developed into a political bone of contention with no real solution.

What was particularly controversial was the fair distribution.

A few days ago, a premium of up to EUR 550 was awarded for geriatric care.

However, there is also a need for clarification, as on Friday two discussions with Dr.

Constantin von Stechow, Managing Director of the Wartenberg Clinic.

His house specializes in rehabilitation and geriatrics, i.e. geriatric medicine.

While all geriatric nurses would now benefit from the premium, “we don’t get anything on the rehabilitation and acute side,” reports von Stechow at first – even though his house has admitted Covid patients several times.

It still needs to be adjusted.

Von Stechow can later say: “The associations I just spoke to on the phone are in good spirits that there is an amendment to the law for rehabilitation clinics and specialist hospitals like ours.

If that happens, we will of course pay out the bonus.”

A nurse at his home had contacted our newspaper and complained that she had not yet received any special payments at the clinic - with the exception of a 500-euro bonus that she had applied for from the Free State in 2020.

As reported by Stechow, the clinic would still be able to pay its employees a bonus of up to 1,500 euros tax- and social security-free until March 31st - another story again, because this regulation applies to all employers.

According to Stechow, she has not yet decided whether the private clinic wants to make such a payment.

"Especially since we now have to wait and see what exactly is going on with the new care bonus." He emphasizes that the caregivers were given fruit as a gift, and that a "great wage agreement" was reached,

So far, three special payments at the Erding Clinic

Our newspaper also asked the Erding Clinic about the Corona special payments.

According to hospital director Dr.

Dirk Last there were three so far, each for all nursing staff.

The first two in December 2020;

firstly, a special payment via the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD), which amounted to between 300 and 600 euros depending on the pay group;

secondly, a special payment for each full-time employee of almost 330 euros, doctors were excluded.

And according to Last, a corona bonus (again not doctors) for employees in nursing or with patient-related activities followed in June 1115 euros, half of which was still available for all other employees.

"Basically, the approach in Erding so far has been to consider all employees if possible, since the entire house is challenged by the corona pandemic.

For example, every doctor received a gift basket from the company in June 2021, since the Corona premium did not apply to doctors,” said Last.

In the pandemic, many employers could not afford special payments, says the senior center manager Mundigl.

Von Stechow explains the difference to a district hospital like Erdinger (see box): "If that makes a loss, the district levy increases for the communities." A private clinic, on the other hand, should not make a loss.

Peter Haile, Managing Director of Pflegestern-Seniorenservice GmbH with old people's homes in Oberding and Finsing, among other places, says that "100 percent of all funds" in his house have been distributed to those entitled to apply.

The staff helped with the application.

With regard to the voluntary employer payment of up to 1,500 euros, Haile says shortly before leaving for vacation that he does not have an overview of this.

According to him, the facilities are sometimes struggling with a doubling of prices, for example for gloves.

“Our administrative staff work at the stop just like our nursing staff.

Things are constantly changing,” says Haile, who, however, limits his criticism: “You also have to see how much money is being made available.

You also have to be fair to our government.”

Meanwhile, Mundigl finds dark words.

The various corona payments are not even an issue among their employees because they have no time to lose their thoughts with all the overtime and remaining vacation time.

Of course, they too would be happy about every cent, says Mundigl, who then focuses on the generally difficult situation in nursing.

There's just not enough staff.

As far as foreign workers are concerned, she describes the situation in Bavaria as a "catastrophe".

According to Mundigl, unlike in Hesse, for example, the path to recognition of the training abroad is a very lengthy one.

“I have an employee here who has been messing around for two years,” says Mundigl.

Her conclusion: “The nursing care is heading for the super meltdown.

People just can't anymore."
