The Ukrainian side makes their demands clear in advance: "immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of troops".

The Russian delegation emphasizes that they are interested in an agreement.

Kyiv/Minsk - According to information from Kyiv, a Ukrainian delegation has arrived at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border for negotiations with Russia.

The group will be led by the faction leader of the presidential party Sluha Narodu (Servant of the People), David Arachamija, said the Presidential Office in Kyiv.

The delegation also includes Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, Presidential Advisor Mykhailo Podoliak and Deputy Foreign Minister Mykola Tochytskyi.

It was also announced: "The key issue of the negotiations is the immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of troops from the territory of Ukraine."

Exact venue unknown

The Russian side spoke of the start of negotiations at 10:00 a.m. (CET).

"We are ready for negotiations as soon as they arrive," the state agency TASS quoted the Russian delegation head, Vladimir Medinsky, as saying.

Medinski assured that Moscow was interested in an agreement.

The exact location of the negotiations was not initially known.

The delicate negotiations were overshadowed by rumors that Belarus could officially join the war against Ukraine with soldiers as early as Monday morning.

Belarusian paratroopers are said to have received orders to fly to Ukraine early in the morning, the Ukrainian agency Unian wrote.

She relies on information from Andrej Strischak from the non-governmental organization Bysol.
