"The Russians kidnap thousands of Ukrainians and put them in camps in Russia" | Israel today

2022-03-19T22:08:29.619Z

According to authorities in Mariupol, in the last week the Russian army has in fact abducted thousands of civilians in the city and scattered them across Russia

The city of Mariupol claimed on Saturday that Russian forces fighting in the city have in recent days carried out an operation to transfer the local population to Russia and even accuse Moscow of trying to carry out a purge as the Nazis did.

The Telegram channel of the city council read: "The occupiers forcibly force the people to leave Ukraine and move to Russia."

They also added that they did so in the city's left bank district, and that they were “taken from their shelters” and then transferred to detention camps similar to those where people were held during the first and second Chechen wars.

Both sides in the war in Ukraine are also trying to win the battle for consciousness, especially when it comes to comparisons regarding the Nazis, so such accusations should be taken with limited bail.

At the same time, these are officials in Mariupol, and the "Kiev Independent" newspaper also attaches importance to them.

It is further stated that in some cases after they enter these camps, which it is not clear where they are in Russia, "the authorities check their cell phones and documents and then they are sent to distant cities in Russia and their fate is unknown".

The mayor was quoted as saying: "Not only are they destroying the peaceful city, they are going further and displacing the residents.

What the occupiers are doing today is similar to the horrible things of World War II when the Nazis forcibly transferred people.

It is hard to believe that people are forcibly transferred to another country in the 21st century. "
