Russian Deputy Representative to the United Nations Gennady Kuzmin described the decision of the United Nations General Assembly to suspend Russia's membership in the Human Rights Council as an inappropriate and politicized step.

Today, TASS news agency quoted Kuzmin as saying that "Russia has taken a decision to suspend its powers as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council as early as April 7, 2022."

Kuzmin stressed that Russia will, however, continue to abide by its international commitments in the field of human rights and contribute to a constructive dialogue on this issue.

The United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of suspending Russia from the United Nations Human Rights Council, where the resolution was supported by 93 members, 24 against, and 58 abstentions.
