Bavaria has shortened the isolation period for people with corona.

The city of Nuremberg explains the procedure in the event of a positive test.

Nuremberg – Since April 13, Bavaria has reduced the duration of the isolation of corona patients to five days after a positive test result.

In addition, close contacts no longer have to be quarantined.

Corona isolation in Bavaria shortened: the onset of symptoms no longer plays a role - initial detection counts

The city of Nuremberg explains the rules in a press release dated April 14.

With regard to the isolation of those who tested positive, it says: “For people who have tested positive for Sars-CoV-2 by means of an antigen test or nucleic acid test, each carried out or monitored by a medical specialist or a comparable person trained for this (certified test), there is still an obligation to isolate if there is a positive test result.”

The onset of symptoms no longer plays a role in calculating the duration of isolation.

Because: “The first detection of the pathogen applies immediately.” The five-day period begins on the day after the first detection and ends with the end of the last day of the period.

Corona isolation in Bavaria: five days of quarantine, a maximum of ten days

In the case of both symptomatic and asymptomatic people who tested positive with a rapid test, the isolation ends at the earliest five days after the pathogen was first detected and they have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours.

A free test is not required, as the city clarifies.

If there has been no freedom from symptoms for at least 48 hours on the fifth day, the isolation initially continues.

"48 hours (two days) of freedom from symptoms are crucial." However, the isolation ends after ten days at the latest.

The City of Nuremberg recommends: Have the positive rapid test checked by a PCR test

The city of Nuremberg points out that a positive rapid test result should still be checked using a PCR test.

"If this PCR test shows a negative result, the isolation ends with the availability of this test result.

If no PCR test result is available or if it is positive, the isolation ends at the earliest five days after the (first) positive antigen test and freedom from symptoms for at least 48 hours, but at the latest after ten days.”

Quarantine of close contacts and suspects will no longer be ordered with immediate effect.

But infected people are still asked to inform their contacts independently.

No more quarantine for contacts

Contact persons are also advised to “reduce contacts on their own responsibility, to work from home if possible, to conscientiously comply with the general hygiene rules AHA + L and to watch out for symptoms of illness.

It is also recommended to voluntarily test yourself for five days.”

And: For contact persons who work in healthcare facilities, old people's and nursing facilities and outpatient nursing services, a daily test before starting work up to and including day five after contact is recommended.
