In one of her rare confidences, Queen Elizabeth II once recalled what was hidden behind the appearances of ceremonies, inaugurations, parades, birthdays, state receptions.
Plying her trade as queen has occupied much of her time since her coronation seventy years ago.
If Her Most Gracious Majesty has always appeared smiling, relaxed, wearing a hat or tiara, colored clothing or evening dress, we must not forget that this performance requires a lot of energy and can be terribly tiring.
Fortunately, the queen has, until recent years, enjoyed very good health and very good sleep.
And no doubt also a remarkable lifestyle.
But this is only the visible part of its function.
The most discreet part of its activities is also dense.
