INFOGRAPHICS - The first new generation French nuclear attack submarine (SNA) enters active service this Friday in Brest. Larger and heavier than its predecessors, it carries more weapons but fewer sailors.

Suffren-class submarines are nuclear attack submarines (SNAs).

Advantageous dimensions

In terms of dimensions, the Suffren outclasses its predecessor in every way.

It is 99 meters long (76 meters for the Rubis), by 8.8 in diameter for a diving weight of 5,300 tonnes (compared to 2,600 tonnes for the Rubis).

Its diving depth is more than 350 meters.
