Man runs through the city center with a knife and a gun - the police fire a shot when they are arrested

In Wuppertal, a man ran through the city center on Saturday and threatened pedestrians with a knife.

The police finally overpowered him with one shot.

Wuppertal – During a police operation in Wuppertal on Saturday, a man who had threatened the police with a knife and a gun was shot.

As a spokesman said in the evening, the man was taken to a hospital with injuries.

No other injuries were initially known.

According to the information, the police were initially informed that a man armed with a knife was threatening pedestrians in downtown Wuppertal.

When the emergency services were on site, he did not respond to their speeches.

The police then allegedly used pepper spray, but the man continued to refuse to take the knife out of his hand.

He is said to have sat down on a bench and then pulled out a pistol.

As the police further reported, he pointed the gun at the officers.

He was finally overpowered by a shot fired by one of the police officers.

He was subsequently taken to a hospital.

The background to the crime and other details, such as the man's age and motives, were initially unknown.

Already on Friday morning there was an exchange of fire between a 67-year-old and the police in Saarbrücken.

One officer was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
