"Foodstuffs originating in areas occupied by Israel must be marked
," reads the Norwegian decision to label Israeli products produced in the "occupied" areas.
"The Israeli occupation includes the Golan Heights, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank - including East Jerusalem."
The Israeli Foreign Ministry this evening (Saturday) condemned the Norwegian government's decision, saying: "This is a decision that will not contribute to the promotion of Israeli-Palestinian relations, and will adversely affect Israeli-Norwegian relations and Norway's relevance to promoting Israeli-Palestinian relations."
The Norwegian decision cites the European Court of Justice's ruling from 2019, which states that "the EU's information on food 'regulation should be interpreted as requiring the labeling of food products from areas occupied by Israel."
The decision places special emphasis on marking agricultural products from settlement in Judea and Samaria: olive oil, fruits, vegetables and potatoes. " June 4, 1967, "the resolution reads.
"Norway considers Israeli settlements in the Occupied Territories to be contrary to international law."
As you may recall, in May 2020, the Norwegian Parliament rejected a similar bill.
