Opinion | To prevent political Kharkiri on the right: The obvious solution - unification between the right and the Jewish home Israel today

2022-07-12T07:43:39.919Z

If the right and the Jewish home want life, they must overcome the sediments of the past - especially personal rivalries and the murky relationship - and connect together.

The Israeli election campaign is littered with political bodies of parties that did not pass the blocking percentage, and the votes of their voters were thrown in the trash.

The right has excelled in this in particular, and if it does not recover, it may recreate its "achievements" from the past in the 2022 election as well.

The damage that small right-wing parties have inflicted on the national camp over the years has been real: as early as 1992, the revival received only 1.2% of the total kosher votes and remained outside the Knesset.

If it had passed the blocking percentage, it might have prevented the left from blocking a bloc and thwarting the disastrous Oslo Accords.

In April 2019, the fiasco was particularly resounding, with the failure of the new right led by Shaked and Bennett and of a Jewish identity led by Feiglin preventing a right-wing majority.

The two parties, which did not pass the blocking percentage, together lost no less than 257,000 votes (about seven seats!).

In the next election (September 2019), the right-wing bloc was weakened, this time due to the failure of Jewish power, which remained outside the Knesset with 84,000 votes.

The required solution

Now, as mentioned, again some of the right-wing movements may carry out political harkiri.

Alongside the Likud, the ultra-Orthodox and religious Zionism, there are two other parties that are unlikely to pass the blocking percentage: the remnants of the right led by Ayelet Shaked, and the Jewish House, the successor of the historic NRP, which is now trying to reinvent itself. The alternative is political Kharkiri.

Past experience shows that if these parties want life, they must overcome the sediments of the past - especially personal rivalries and a murky relationship - and bond together.

The ideological difference between them is small to microscopic, and at the ideological level they will be able to reach agreements easily.

Also in the question of questions - yes Bibi or no Bibi, the solution is on the table: a declaration in advance of joining Netanyahu, in the scenario that the seats they will achieve together will complement Netanyahu and the right-wing bloc 61, and second priority, if not 61 - a broad unity government.

In such a scenario, Ayelet Shaked, who was an excellent Minister of Justice and Minister of the Interior, will be able to stop missing both sections and lose from all worlds.

In her current position, she loses twice: those who are unwilling to hear from Bibi, but appreciate Shaked, will refrain from supporting her for fear of joining Netanyahu.

Those who want to vote for Shaked so that she joins Netanyahu, as part of an ideological right, are afraid of crossing another of its lines in the direction of the left-wing parties and the PM.

Shaked's connection with Yoaz Handel, which is now being examined, also means a continuation of the omission on both sections.

On the other hand, joining a new formation with the Jewish Home will make it easier for Shaked to cut in the direction of Netanyahu, what's more, in any case - this is apparently her natural inclination.

Shaked blocked the defendant's law for many months, and she also tried twice, without success, about a year ago and in the last month, before the dissolution of the Knesset, to form a government with Netanyahu and the Likud.

Ideological credibility

A third potential rib for such a union is Amichai Shikli - if he does not join the Likud.

His great public asset is ideological credibility.

It is very difficult to find MKs like him in the Knesset, whose mouths and hearts are equal, but Shikli, if he runs alone, may find that this commodity is not enough, so despite the heavy rainfall between him and Shaked - his connection to it and the Jewish home is called for. Personal rivals are several times more bitter, and Shaked and the Jewish home, and if necessary, Shikli, are also capable.

The choice before them is sharp: to be dependent on each other outside the Knesset, or to be dependent on each other in a new union, which will prevent another car accident on the right and the crash of the three of them.
