Special envoy to Angers
As soon as you leave the station, a sign proclaims it: Angers is the “first big city in France where life is good”.
Chief town of Maine-et-Loire, its placidity, its calm, its gentleness, of course, were elevated to the rank of myth by the poem of Joachim du Bellay, from the 16th century.
And it is not easy to disagree, along the alleys, between the blue of the slate and the beautiful pale blond of the local tufa.
Yet it was here that, on the evening of Friday July 15 to Saturday July 16, a terrible explosion of violence took place, in the shadow of the castle of the good King René, who came to question this reputation and left the city in desolation.
Around one o'clock in the morning, the police were indeed called on the esplanade Cœur-de-Maine, in the city center, by young women describing a drunken individual who had sexually assaulted them.
On the scene, the police noted the absence of the suspect, and a calm situation again.
But this one came back...
