Tomorrow: a strike in the supervised nurseries Israel today

2022-08-30T20:11:04.553Z

The move is against the background of the state's refusal to increase their wages • "For 13 years the wages of the nannies have increased and during this time the cost of living has become unbearably difficult" • This will affect about 20 thousand toddlers who will remain in homes

The owners of the supervised nurseries, where about 20,000 toddlers study, announced that they will shut down the opening of the school year tomorrow.

The reason: the state does not allow their wages to be raised.

This is a group of about 4,000 women who operate a nursery in their homes with up to five toddlers between the ages of three months and three years.

An increase of NIS 60.

Unlike a private nursery, here it is a nursery that is under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, supervised and even subsidized by it.

That is, it is the state that determines the rate that the parents pay.

The strike of the daycare owners' union together with "Power to the Workers" is defined as a warning strike.

The union announced that if there is no change, there will be additional shutdown days.

The daycare owners are protesting that the promised rate increase will give each caregiver an average of 60 shekels per month for each parent.

This, although according to them their expenses have increased.

According to Ninet Sasson, a member of the union's leadership and the owner of a nursery in Be'er Sheva: "This is a mockery of Resh. For 13 years, the nannies' wages have not increased, and during that time the cost of living has become unbearable. Now the Minister of the Economy and the Minister of Finance are definitively signaling that the era of supervised nurseries is over. Every nannies would prefer to open A private and unsupervised nursery, instead of paying out of pocket for operating a supervised nursery."

Due to the conditions of their employment, the union petitioned the High Court. In response, the state undertook to convene the price committee (a professional inter-ministerial committee for finance and the economy) which recommended raising the rate for nurseries in the coming school year by approximately NIS 550 per month. However, Finance Minister Lieberman and the Minister of Economy Barbie decided to reduce the increase by about 20%.
