The Directorate General of Customs called on citizens, industrialists and traders not to deal with and possess smuggled goods, as this has legal consequences for them and a negative impact on the economy, health and society.
The directorate affirmed, in a statement that SANA received a copy of today, that it will continue to exert all efforts to suppress smuggling and seize smuggled goods, thanking the citizens who provide information that helps control violations and suppress smuggling.
The directorate revealed a number of cases that were seized for smuggled goods, including human medicines, mobile phones, foreign smoke, watches, diesel, weapons, antiques, fabrics, makeup, bicycles and foodstuffs.
According to the directorate’s statement, some smuggled goods were seized upon entering the border customs secretariats and placed in secret caches, while others were seized by monitoring the movement of smuggled goods across the border and inside warehouses, noting that the fines for these cases amounted to hundreds of millions of Syrian pounds.
In its statement, the Directorate pointed out that, according to the investigated cases, smuggled goods were also seized hidden in a garbage car, which was foreign smoke and shoes. A warehouse containing empty containers of smuggled Turkish oil was also seized, the contents of which were emptied into other containers as being of Syrian national origin, which constitutes Violation of customs law and consumer protection law.
The directorate indicated that these issues come as a result of the daily work carried out by the General Customs Directorate in combating smuggling by the elements of the Anti-Smuggling Directorate, the Directorate of Customs Police Affairs and the regional directorates in the governorates.
