An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale struck New Zealand's Kermadec Islands today.
The US Geological Survey stated that the tremor occurred at a depth of 30.5 km below sea level, but there were no reports of casualties, material damage, or tsunami warnings.
It is noteworthy that New Zealand is located in a seismically active region in the Pacific Ocean known as the Ring of Fire, and extends for a distance of 40,000 km.
