Melanie Brown was invited as a guest to the party conference of Britain's ruling Conservative Party in early October.
Speaking at an event there on domestic violence, she expressed concern that "these times of absolute economic chaos" could sideline the massive problem.
Brown is better known as Mel B of the British pop group Spice Girls, where she was nicknamed "Scary Spice".
Was there an encounter with then-Secretary of State for Trade Conor Burns at the Tory convention that might now frighten him in hindsight?
Conor Burns was fired by Prime Minister Liz Truss on Friday over allegations of "grave misconduct".
In addition, the MP was excluded from the parliamentary group for the duration of the investigation.
Burns said he would cooperate and clear his name.
In the statement on his own behalf, which Burns also published on Twitter, the politician wrote that he had not received any information about the complaint and had not been asked by the group leader to comment on the content.
"I hope that the party will carry out its investigation as quickly as it has now reached its verdict," he concluded his statement.
Apparently, that explanation sounded too much like innocence being pursued for Melanie Brown, who replied to Burns on Twitter: »Seriously??
You shocked by the complaint???
May I remind you what you said to me in that elevator..."
Since then, the British public has been puzzling over what words were said between the Secretary of State and the Spice Girl in the elevator.
Or as one Twitter user put it, quoting the Spice Girls super hit »Wannabe«: »I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want... I really really want you to tell me what Conor Burns said to you in a lift."
Previously there had been reports that the allegations against Burns were made after this week's Tories party conference in Birmingham.
According to The Sun newspaper, Burns behaved inappropriately towards a younger man in a hotel bar.
Asked about Melanie Brown's tweet, Conor Burns said, according to The Guardian newspaper, "I don't think I've ever met Mel."
