With the participation of fifty publishing houses, the activities of the Syrian Book Fair entitled “We Read to Rise”, which is organized by the Ministry of Culture at the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus, kicked off this evening.

The exhibition will witness the participation of 11 public and 39 private publishing houses, including new titles in various cultural, political, economic, intellectual and literary fields.

The world of children occupies a special presence in the books of the exhibition, where 12 publishing houses specialized in this field participate, and present experiences and modern books on the level of topics, ideas, printing and colors.

The Minister of Culture, Lubana Mushawah, confirmed in a statement to reporters that the quality of printing, covers and content of the Syrian book made it distinguished throughout the Arab world, pointing out that children's books were the most popular and sold during the previous years of the exhibition, and that most publishing houses in Syria participated in the exhibition, and the printed book has been present strongly since 2000 until now.

Dr. Mushouh indicated that the Arab Publishers Association in Syria was able to maintain its cohesion and production by developing new mechanisms for book making and marketing, referring to the discounts and offers offered by the fair, which amounted to 50 percent of the Syrian General Book Organization, and 35 percent of the rest of the private publishing houses.

Director General of Al-Assad National Library in Damascus, Iyad Murshid, explained that more than fifty publishing houses participated in the exhibition in their originality, in addition to five publishing houses that participated by proxy. A celebration of the aspects of culture and the arts, as it documents cinema and theater, and a rare opportunity to pay attention to all aspects of cultural and intellectual life.

Haitham Hafez, head of the Syrian Publishers Association, indicated that the exhibition has broad prospects, the most important of which is the arrival of the Syrian book to the reader, providing him with good content and establishing a pioneering culture entitled “We read to rise,” in addition to being the gateway for publishers’ works to enter the Syrian and Arab markets, stressing the need for concerted efforts In the development of the Syrian book and the development of the publishing industry.

As for the writer Hassan Hamid, one of the exhibition’s visitors, he expressed his happiness with the development of these activities that allow the reader, writer, writer and artist to view artistic, literary and scientific productions from all over the Syrian geography, exchange knowledge and information, and allow translators to bring these products to the global cultural space, and introduce the ancient Syrian civilization.

The exhibition will witness many accompanying various cultural and artistic activities, including the screening of six cinematic films of the latest Syrian productions, two concerts, and intellectual and cultural seminars, in which a number of researchers, thinkers and writers will participate, in addition to holding many book signing parties for writers and poets.
