Conservative Rishi Sunak is to become Britain's next prime minister following Liz Truss, his only competitor in the race, minister Penny Mordaunt, failing to secure the number of endorsements on Monday.

Penny Mordaunt had just before admitted defeat, giving her "
full support
" on Twitter to Rishi Sunak, a 42-year-old former finance minister who becomes the first non-white head of government in UK history.
