With an evening of classical music, Spanish organist Juan Delarubia performed the first musical evening within the “Organ and Music Festival in Syria” in its fifth edition, on the opera stage at Dar al-Assad for Culture and Arts.

Delarubia performed solo on the organ, which has a majestic presence on the stage and is distinguished by its multiple voices and complex hormonal interference, which reaches a sublime musical atmosphere in which the genius of playing excels, and the musical re-composition of pieces and concertos.

Delarubia, who is the principal organist of the Cathedral of the Holy Family in Barcelona, ​​presented a group of classical pieces for this unique instrument, which is housed in Dar al-Assad.

Known for his excellence as a soloist and conductor of the orchestra, the Spanish pianist Delarubia is an accompanist and player on the Klavsan instrument that he has carried to major theaters in more than 30 countries around the world and has specialized over the last decade in improvisations on silent films.

As for the idea of ​​the festival held by the Holy Land International Organ Festival and the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus, it is based on hosting a group of international organists to learn about different styles and methods of dealing with the organ, as well as qualifying students and professors in Syria to ensure the continuity of this instrument in the bands and to make the Syrian public heard. The largest musical instrument in the world.

In a statement to SANA, the conductor of the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Misak Baghboudrian, explained that the festival, since its inception, was the only international music festival in Syria during the war period, and it continued until after with the aim of promoting the organ, which is considered one of the treasures that the Damascus Opera House embraces due to the necessity of its presence in musical composition. automated.

The history of the organ goes back to 200 BC, invented by Ctesibus, a wind instrument that operates on a pneumatic movement system. 2,922 tubes, made of metal or wood, which produces musical sounds that vary in turn according to the length of the tube. Among the German musicians who played this instrument were Dietrich Boxhode and Johann Sebastian Bach, and the French Alexandre Gilmant and Marcel.

It is noteworthy that the first edition of the Organ and Music Festival in Syria was launched in 2017.
