A total of eight wolves were sighted independently of each other on Sunday morning between Waldkappel and Fnitrile and near Bischhausen.

Waldkappel – The hunter and dog owner Christel Weil was around 10 a.m. on Sunday morning about a kilometer from the village of Waldkappel (Werra-Meißner-Kreis) with her dog when she observed a five-headed wolf family on an open field at a width of about 150 meters along.

"There were two larger and three younger animals," says Christel Weil.

These were drawn "comfortably" and were not in hunting mode.

"I can't imagine the wolves scenting me."

The woman had just reached her car after the walk on Sunday morning when she noticed the wolves.

"I was glad that there wasn't a direct confrontation with the pack," she says.

"If we had been a little later, we would have gotten right into the path of the wolves." She is sure that her friendly dog would have run towards the wolves, which she believes would have killed the dog, reports hna.de.

Waldkappel (Werra-Meißner-Kreis): "I wouldn't have known what I should have done if the wolves were chasing us"

"It's really threatening and an encounter with five wolves would have overwhelmed me," says Christel Weil.

"I wouldn't have known what I should have done if the wolves had been chasing us." Christel Weil made a video recording of the wolf sighting, which was also published on Sunday via the Wolf Monitor community network.

Just under an hour before the wolf sighting near F belt, the former forest ranger Hubert Aha had also seen three young wolves in a state forest area between Bischhausen and Kirchhosbach, about one kilometer from the village of Waldkappel.

Wolves in northern Hesse: Animals often cross the Waldkappel-F mission-Mäckelsdorf cycle path

Aha was out with his dog in the forest area to check hides.

"When I came around the corner, the three wolves were 50 meters in front of me," he reports.

One of them jumped off quickly in the direction of Bischhausen, the other two made off in a "light troll" in the direction of Kirchhosbach.

Therefore, Aha is 95 percent sure that these are not the same animals that Christel Weil saw a good hour later at Fnitrile.

"That doesn't fit the direction."

Just two weeks ago, Aha observed two adult wolves in the so-called "Russian corner" just outside the Wollstein monastery near Waldkappel. Colleagues had also had repeated sightings in the past few weeks.

Several wolves were recently recorded by a wildlife camera near Harmuthsachsen.

According to reports, the wolves would also frequently switch to the Waldkappel-F mission-Mäckelsdorf cycle path.
