Vigilance in the US political system: Trump is expected to announce a candidacy in the presidential race | Israel Hayom

Media outlets associated with the right in the country estimate that despite the accusations that he caused losses to Republican candidates in the congressional elections, the "special announcement" will take place as planned on Tuesday at his home in Florida.

The former president of the United States, Donald Trump, is expected to announce tomorrow (Tuesday) a run in the primary elections of the Republican Party for the presidency of the United States, after a long period of conjecture and speculation in the American political system regarding the timing of the former president's announcement.

According to publications on the news network "Fox News", Trump intends to announce the contest in a speech broadcast from his estate "Mar-a-Lago" in Florida and close associates of the former president told the news network that Trump ignored the requests of some of his close associates to postpone the announcement amid accusations that his campaign - who focused on attacking the Democrats for "stealing" the election to the White House two years ago - prevented them from winning many seats in both houses of Congress in the midterm elections.

Trump's associates are worried about the dismal results for the Republican Party in the congressional midterm elections.

During the night, a Democratic victory was announced in the race for the Nevada Senate seat, which was up for election on Tuesday.

Incumbent Senator Catherine Cortes-Masto from the Democratic Party was declared the winner over opponent Adam Lexalt, who is associated with former President Trump.

After counting the votes received by mail, Masto closed the small gap of about 800 votes held by Riva during the weekend.

This closed the door on the possibility of a Republican majority in the upper house of Congress, the Senate.

The victory in Nevada gave Democrats the 50th Senate seat, effectively securing a 51-seat majority because Vice President Kamala Harris, who is considered the Senate president, has a tie-breaking vote in the event of a vote ending in a tie.

Nevada is traditionally considered "blue", i.e. Democratic, but in recent years the Republicans have gradually succeeded in gnawing away at the grip of the Donkey Party and in the last presidential election it was considered a swing state.

Before the election, three-quarters of voters said in public opinion polls that the US is not moving in the right direction under the Biden administration, and about 50 percent stated that the difficult economic situation is the most important issue for them.

Despite the disappointing result for Republicans in general and Trump's candidates in general, the former president did not change the positive tone surrounding his presidential candidacy.

"We had tremendous success in the midterm elections. Why would anything change?"

Trump told Fox News on Saturday.

Meanwhile, this week the conference of the coalition of Republican Jews, one of the strongest and most influential organizations in the party representing the American right, will be held.

Conservative media in the United States defined the convention as "the first call for the primaries in the Republican Party" and several high-ranking figures and potential candidates are expected to participate in it, including the governor of the state of Florida, Ron DeSantis, who won a big victory in the election for the position of governor last week and is considered a promising candidate to compete with Trump, who recently began attack him.

Trump will not be at the convention.
