Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi today (Monday) received the "Legion of Merit" award from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Army, General Mark Milley.
The honorable decoration was awarded on behalf of American President Joe Biden to Colonel Kochavi during an honor guard at the Fort Myer base in Washington DC. It was given, among other things, due to the deepening of the strategic partnership between the armies of Israel and the United States.

During the ceremony, it was said that the decoration was awarded "for his extraordinary excellence in his service as Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces for the past four years. As part of his actions during his tenure as Chief of Staff, Lt. Col. Kochavi demonstrated the spirit of cooperation by deepening the strategic partnership.

Colonel Kochavi established Israel's position as a regional security leader, capable and operationally effective in the Middle East.
He demonstrated exceptional strategic leadership by utilizing the diplomatic initiatives of the 'Abraham Accords' to deepen bilateral military relations," it was noted.

Furthermore, it was emphasized that Kochavi led the military relations between the US and Israel during the transfer of the regional responsibility of the European Command of the US Army (EUCOM) to the Central Command of the US Army (CENTCOM).
In January 2023 Chief of Staff Kochavi will finish his post. He will be replaced by Major General Herzi Halevi who until the end of October served as Deputy Chief of Staff.
