A serious traffic accident occurred in the western district of Hong Kong Island last Saturday (19th). A light goods vehicle was driving along Queen's Road West and knocked down an 89-year-old woman at the junction of Water Street. The injured person suffered serious head injuries and his life is now hanging by a thread .
The police explained the case today (21st) and arrested the 62-year-old driver involved in the case on suspicion of "dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to others" and appealed to witnesses to provide more information.
Inspector Hu Wencong, Director of the First Team of the Special Investigation Team of the Hong Kong Island Regional Traffic Department, said that at about 11:40 am last Saturday (19th), a 62-year-old male driver was driving a light truck, heading west along Queen's Road, turning right into the water. While heading north on the street, he ran into an elderly woman who was crossing the road.
Suffering serious head injuries, the injured was conscious and sent to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment. His condition deteriorated and he is now being hospitalized for treatment.
The police pointed out that the driver's alcohol breath test was zero at the time, and it is believed that he did not violate traffic instructions while driving
After investigation, the police arrested the driver involved in the case on suspicion of "dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to others". He has been released on bail pending further investigation and must report to the police in the middle of next month.
The case was handed over to Team 2 of the Special Investigation Team of the Traffic Department of Hong Kong Island Region for investigation.
The Police strongly condemns any dangerous driving behavior, as it poses danger to other road users and is often the main cause of serious traffic accidents, the Police will strictly enforce the law and will not tolerate it.
