A US judge has ordered former Vice President Mike Pence to testify about conversations he had with Donald Trump before the storming of the Capitol, multiple media reported on Tuesday (March 28).

That magistrate, James Boasberg, ruled that Mike Pence should provide answers to a federal grand jury regarding any questions related to the investigation of potential crimes committed by the former president.

But Mike Pence may refuse to discuss his actions on the day of the assault, when he had the role of president of the Senate for the certification of the results of the presidential election of 2020, according to the same source.

The judge's decision, which has not been made public, represents a partial victory for the Justice Department, which is investigating the attack on the Capitol, which was linked to several deaths and in which more than 100 police officers were injured.

More than 1,000 people were arrested.

Donald Trump is seeking a new term in 2024 and Mike Pence could be among those who will challenge him for the Republican nomination.

Investigators are examining Donald Trump's role in the violence that erupted on January 6, 2021, as part of what would have been a broader attempt to stay in power after losing the presidential race to Joe Biden.

Mike Pence, as well as the special prosecutor appointed by the Department of Justice, Jack Smith, can challenge the parts of the decision not in their favor.
