Yonatan Ovadia, a member of the Jerusalem City Council and the grandson of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, was arrested today (Friday) on suspicion of causing damage, during a demonstration in the city's Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, also known as the neighborhood of Shimon the Righteous - where Yosef arrived.
At the time of his arrest, Yosef was part of a group of several activists who support the eviction of the Arab residents from the neighborhood, who came to demonstrate in front of a protest by left-wing activists who oppose the eviction, a protest that has been taking place in the neighborhood for several weeks.
Yesterday, Yosef was recorded on security cameras allegedly pouring a liquid substance near the house of an Arab family in the neighborhood and then - leaving the place.
In this context, it should be noted that Yosef owns a house in the Shimon HaTzadik neighborhood, a house that is in a legal process designed to evict the tenants living in it, so that Yosef can realize his ownership of the property.
