This evil spell cast on the churches of France

INQUIRY - Decommissioning, reconversion, destruction... The future of religious heritage is in jeopardy in all regions. In the Pays de la Loire, this Saturday, a church in Mayenne celebrates its last mass, before demolition.

The Saint-Corneille-et-Saint-Cyprien church, rebuilt in the 19th century, is painful to see.

Gates have prohibited access for ten years, in the center of the Mayenne village of La Baconnière, where 2,000 souls live.

Its roof, partly swept away by a storm a few years ago, is draped with long blue tarpaulins, with holes here and there.

This Saturday, April 15, a final mass of thanksgiving will be celebrated, under a marquee erected in a parking lot, before its demolition, in a few months.

"This time of memory is given for all the people who took part in the life of this church and who lived strong moments of their life there", saddens the

Association for the preservation of the heritage of La Baconnière, which, at the thanks to demonstrations and petitions, mobilized to save the church.

In vain: after its desecration by the diocese of Laval, during a long administrative procedure of decommissioning finalized by prefectural decree, the council…
