The Cuban authorities announced this Sunday, April 30 the postponement of the May Day commemorations due to bad weather in the country, after having already reduced them due to gasoline shortages.

Due to the weather instability that has caused intense rains in various territories and due to the forecasts for the coming hours, it has been decided to postpone throughout the country the commemorative activities for the International Workers' Day scheduled for this 1st May
,” the official daily Granma said on its website.
The commemorations have been postponed to Friday May 5 "
which will also be declared a public holiday

Gas shortages
On Tuesday, the authorities had already announced that the traditional rally in Plaza de la Revolution in Havana would not take place due to the serious shortages of gasoline that the country has been suffering from for several weeks.
Usually tens of thousands of participants arrive by bus from all over the city to gather in this emblematic square of the capital before marching.
This year, residents of the center of the capital have been called to gather on foot on the Malecon promenade, while the rest will take part in activities organized in their neighborhoods.
The communist island is going through its worst economic crisis in thirty years, under the combined effects of the consequences of the pandemic, the strengthening of American sanctions and internal structural weaknesses.
This situation leads to recurrent shortages of food, medicine and gasoline, aggravated by galloping inflation.
