Two new Iranian actresses will be prosecuted for appearing without the compulsory veil at a public event in Tehran, a few days after two other actresses, local media announced on Tuesday.
“
Following the removal of the hijab by Afsaneh Baygan and Fatemeh Motamedarya, two film and television actresses, during a ceremony, a legal action was launched against them and the case was referred to the prosecution,”
said said the Fars agency, citing a statement from the police.
Reinforcement of controls
The images of the two women had gone viral on social networks on Sunday after attending a tribute evening to a famous Iranian actor, Atila Pesyani, organized in Tehran.
On April 25, the capital's police had already filed a complaint against two other actresses, Katayoun Riahi and Pantea Bahram, for "
having committed the crime of removing the hijab in public
" and "
having published photos on the internet
".
The prosecution of the actresses comes after the entry into force in mid-April of a new plan by the police to toughen the control of the wearing of the veil by women, compulsory since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

In recent months, more and more women have appeared in the streets without veils, especially after the start of the protest movement sparked by the death in custody in September of Mahsa Amini, arrested for violating the strict dress code.
In mid-April, the authorities had indicated that more than 150 commercial establishments had been closed in 24 hours for not having respected the obligation of the wearing of the veil by employees.
