A new wave of demonstrations disturbed the tranquility of the seaside resort of Saint-Brévin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique) last Saturday.

It was far from a first.

For several weeks, the town has been the scene of tensions.

The subject of contention: the project to set up a reception center for asylum seekers (Cada).

With a capacity of approximately one hundred seats, its opening is scheduled for the end of the year.

Like what happened in Callac (Côtes-d'Armor), opponents linked to far-right movements are mobilizing to say a stop to

"uncontrolled immigration".

Facing them, supporters of the project, including anti-fascist activists, come together to defend migrants and denounce xenophobia.

The two camps met and faced each other again last Saturday.

In the middle, some 200 police forces - for 450 cumulative demonstrators - who could not contain all the excesses.

A car was set on fire, garbage cans burned and people injured.

“Our traders had to close their doors during a long weekend in May, a weekend of school holidays, causing a significant shortfall. .

Similarly, some have suffered damage to their windows.

Street furniture, garbage cans, barriers have been degraded.

The city councilor is all the more upset against what he describes as

"scenes of urban guerrilla warfare"

, since he had previously asked the prefect to ban these demonstrations

"knowing that they were going to cause disturbances to public order. audience”

.

A request that had not been validated by the authorities.

"It is a pity that the state did not once again support the wish of a mayor"

, he stings.

A municipality “taken hostage”

"tired of suffering clashes"

and that his city is

, Yannick Morez, whose vehicles and home were affected by arson on March 22, is annoyed that

"the state does nothing to put an end to it

.

Because of what appears to him to be a form of immobility on the part of the authorities, the city councilor wants the state to pay the bill for the damage caused by the latest demonstrations.

“We are in the process of estimating the financial impact to repair the damage, and therefore, naturally, I will allow myself to ask the State for its reimbursement.

I also hope that the traders, affected and impacted, will be able to benefit from exceptional aid from the State”,

he indicates to compensate for what, according to him, was a

“difficult day which could have been avoided”.
