From January to March 2023, 450 intentional homicides have been registered in Acapulco, with 157 crimes in the first month of the year, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System cited by EFE.

State authorities recently announced that they had strengthened port security by sending 100 police cars, 600 new security cameras and 400 portable radios for officers.

The mayoress of Acapulco, Abelina López Rodríguez, declared on Friday to the media that "homicides will occur as long as there is someone who is somehow involved in evil, as long as one does not get involved in anything, nothing happens."

López assured that for violence and insecurity to decrease, the family nucleus must be strengthened, since even if there are "a million security elements, there can still be homicides."
