Berlin - Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) is in for a tough walk on Wednesday (May 10) - maybe even two or three: He and his state secretary Patrick Graichen, who has come under criticism, will probably have to face the Bundestag committees on economics and climate protection/energy. For the afternoon, the CDU/CSU parliamentary group has also pushed through a topical hour in the plenary session of the Parliament.
"Best man affair": Habeck-Graichen questioning in the Bundestag - CDU smells wrong game
In both cases, it is about the "best man affair" - the excitement about the sometimes striking family connections in the Ministry of Economics has not ebbed away for days. Habeck and Graichen have now admitted "mistakes".
The exact procedure was not yet clear on Tuesday. A joint hearing between the two committees was expected at 12.00 noon. The Union smells because of the merging of the appointments a wrong game: The Ministry wants to "prevent a separate consultation" "at all costs," tweeted CDU politician Julia Klöckner. She added the rhetorical question: "Out of concern that the statements might differ?"

"The entire green personnel network must be clarified," demanded the head of the Economic Committee, Michael Grosse-Bröhmer (CDU) at Focus Online. He also spoke out against the joint meeting of the committees. The final decisions were not to be made until Wednesday morning.

The background of the survey(s): Graichen was involved in the selection of the new managing director of the state-owned German Energy Agency (Dena), Michael Schäfer - although Schäfer is his best man. The procedure for personnel selection is to be relaunched. Bild also reported that Schäfer wanted to voluntarily resign from his post and also waive compensation, probably also to take Habeck and Graichen out of the line of fire. The state secretary is considered a key figure in the energy transition plans of the Greens.
There is also criticism of personnel interdependencies in the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Graichen's sister, who is married to his colleague Michael Kellner, works like her brother at the Oeko-Institut - a research institution that receives commissions from the federal government. The ministry emphasizes that Kellner and Graichen were not involved in tenders for which the Oeko-Institut could have applied. Kellner served as Green Party managing director until 2021.
