Why did he do it? The mysterious photo that Luis Miguel published of his mother Marcela Basteri

2023-05-10T19:35:56.014Z

Highlights: Luis Miguel shared a photo of himself as a teenager with his mother Marcela Basteri. The singer's motives are clear: this Wednesday, May 10, is Mother's Day in Mexico. Little is known about her and there are those who claim that she died, but also those who maintain that she is still alive. A former director of Interpol Mexico in the 70s said in a TV program that Bastersi is alive and has two more children. Although he did not provide evidence, he stressed that the singer is no longer looking for his mother because he knows she is alive.

The singer had an unprecedented gesture in his networks: he showed a photo of himself with his mother.

Luis Miguel surprised his 3 million fans who follow him on Instagram by sharing a photo where he is seen as a teenager with his mother Marcela Basteri. A very strange gesture considering that the "Sun of Mexico" almost never shows intimate photos in their networks.

Although many were surprised by the mysterious post -which does not carry an epigraph-, the singer's motives are clear: this Wednesday, May 10, Mother's Day is celebrated in Mexico.

It is worth remembering that Basteri has been missing since 1986 (when the singer was around 16 years old) and little is known about her. There are those who claim that she died, but also those who maintain that she is still alive.

This last case is that of Miguel Aldana, former director of Interpol Mexico in the 70s, who said in a TV program that Basteri is alive and has two more children.

"They have talked to me, and Luis Miguel already knows them (his mother's other children)," the former police officer said. Although he did not provide evidence, he stressed that the singer is no longer looking for his mother because he knows she is alive.

The disappearance of Basteri

The Basteri family last saw Marcela on the morning of Monday, August 19, 1986, at Pisa's Galilei International Airport, from where Luis Miguel's mother would travel to Spain to reunite with the singer.

The Basteri said goodbye with hugs and took pictures before watching her leave for Madrid. Marcela had not seen her son Luis Miguel for seven months.

Marcela Basteri, Luis Miguel's mother, mysteriously disappeared.

Immersed in a deep depression due to the failure that had meant not having been able to put a stop to the exploitation and abuse that Luis Rey exercised on his son of only 15 years, the Italian packed her bags and left for the region of Italian Tuscany to take refuge in her paternal house. He only took his youngest son. Alex and Luis Miguel were left "in charge" of their father.

However, a call from Luisito Rey changed everything. From Spain, her former partner contacted her because he needed her signature for "some papers" linked to her son's career.

Marcela, determined not to return to the arms of her ex, accepted the meeting, although she put as a condition that her son be present and that they would only talk about the only thing that tied them at that time: the millionaire assets that Luis Rey had amassed thanks to Luismi's career and that were all in the name of the Italian to evade the treasury.

The Basteri know that Marcela had indeed arrived in Spain because a month after her departure from Pisa, at the beginning of September 1986, she communicated by telephone with her aunt Adua, the woman who most insisted on the search for Marcela and the one who offered the most information about her life and the circumstances of her disappearance.

"We were very worried and he finally called," Adua told journalist Javier León Herrera, in his book Luis Miguel, la historia, which served as the basis for the script of the successful Netflix series about the artist's life.

"He said he was with Alex and Sergino at the house in Madrid, and that he was going to travel to Chile to meet Mickey (Luis Miguel) there," Adua says of her last conversation with her missing niece.

That was the last time Aunt Adua spoke to Marcela. Afterwards, he never heard from her again.
